To make friends with others one should be humble,polite,true and understanding.Friends are of many varieties such as friends of fun,friends of play,friends of affection and friends finds life interesting.he can face any problem in life without complaining.He becomes a man of content.There are enemies who come in disguise as friends too.One must have to be intelligent enough to be able to distinguish between real friends nd false friends.otherwise is better to be alone than making friends with an unsuitable person.

Rambutan is a sweet and sour fruit mostly grown in the wet zone of sri lanka.To sri lankans Malwana,a village nearly is miles far from the capital is synonymous with rambutan. dompe,kaduwela and horana are some other are as where Rambutan is grown in plenty.A rambutan tree grows upto a height of thirtyn feet or more.the tasto of its fruit varies from sweet to sour.budded rambutan a resutt of many researches in Rambutan growing is far sweeter than those grown out of seeds. there are manysub types of budded Rambutan too.out of these Malayan red,Malayan yellow and the malwana special are very much popular in sri lanka.these budded types have a much smaler seed compared to that of the other types.And the white juicy mass of these types can more easilv be detached from the seed.

Threes are one of the pleasant things in nature.But most people do not realise this.they destroy trees in plenty.those who destroy trees are not wise people.they do not think about the future.without trees our earth will become a vast desert. thus a man who fells a tree self ishly to earn money in turn markes his own life a dry one.without trees there will be no rain either.without rain we cannot grow our crops.thus,if e keep on destroying trees before long all man-kind will have to fast.we as intelligent citizens should protes the destruction of trees.we must also join the tree planting campaign organised by the government in order to see our world a ”green”one.

Sri lankahas been famous gemstones fromthe earliest times.It is an important export trade today.Many areas in the sabaragamuwa province are well known for gems.Rathnapura is the most important region for gems. Rathnapura means the ”city of gems”.It has gem museums displaying the wide.range of gems,available inthe country.The Blue sapphirre is the king of sri lankan gems.The 400carat blue sapphire called.The ‘Blue bell” which adorns the british crown is from sri lanka.Rubies,cat’s eyes,alexandrites,aquamarines,tourmalines,spinals,topazes,garn ets and amethysts are some of the precious stones found in sri lanka.The cutting of gems is a specialized job.gems are cut and polished before they are set.Different regions inthe country have different ways of making jewellery.gems are generally worn for their beauty.people also believe that gems have the power to bring luck.The ca rft was handed down from father to son.Now women too work in the gem trade.

POTTERY

Post are made of clay.pottery is a living craft that relates very much to the life of Sri Lanka.Small votive lamps,graceful water jugs,decorative ornaments and various cooking vessele of clay are very popular.Even thoough there are many new ideas in this field many potters still employ traditional methods.Mostof the pottery is made on a rotating disk that the potter keeps turning I’ts called a potter’swheel.It is a fast turning wheel.Alump of clay is placed on this wheel and then the potter forms a pot by tuyning the lump of clay.Decoration to the pot is done by incising potterns or stamping with dyes while the clay is still wet.Most post are fried in a primitive kiln built of bricks or stones.It is covered with a wattle and daub roof.Pottery is now used mostly for decoration.Saucepans have replaced the clay pot most homes.

flying kites is a very interesting hobby.i like to fly kites because it makes me happy and proud.there are different kinds of kites such as snakes and pea-cocks.we can see a lot of kite designs at galle face green.colombo.there we can bperly. ready-made kites too. making a kite is more difficult than fiyingit.it is because the kite should be balanced properly.otherwise it will fly a few feet high and fall back to the ground
